Position Overview
As a Graphic Design Assistant at the St. Olaf College Piper Center for Vocation and Career, I create a wide range of visual content to support the college’s career and vocation initiatives. My work includes designing posters, brochures, flyers, digital graphics, and updating website visuals to enhance engagement with students, alumni, and campus partners.
Stickers
The Piper Center strives to connect with students and guide them down a career path they are passionate about. To build a supportive environment for students, creative design centered around community participation and collaboration eases the daunting career-building process. Through a series of “badge collection stickers” aimed at increasing student engagement in discovering their career path and utilizing the resources the PC offers, and “Career Icons” I designed a series that would leave a lasting imprint on students’ experiences.
Design Approach - Badge Collection
Using icon-styled illustrations and hexagonal shapes that allow students to collect and arrange their stickers on any surface, the result is a colorful mission that every student strives to complete.
Posters & Print
The Piper Center hosts numerous on-campus events throughout the year. To advertise, I have designed numerous posters and print materials that capture the essence of each event or deliverable. Following the bubbly, movement-driven design style that best characterizes the bright personality of the Piper Center, I created a variety of playful layouts that provide an enticing visual experience while presenting important information clearly and concisely.
Social Media
Although the Piper Center has primarily utilized print advertising, social media is a tool that we are continuously exploring. Throughout these pieces, I design using bold, bubbly visuals that replicate our posters. Similarly, utilizing the career icons elevates and brings forward the exuberant environment that the Piper Center promotes.
