Position Overview
The Quarry Literary & Fine Arts Magazine is St. Olaf College’s oldest campus organization that produces a yearly fall zine and spring magazine. As the Media Editor, I oversee and manage The Quarry’s social media presence and marketing initiatives. I collaborate with fellow editors during the artwork selection process for the Zine and actively promote events through various digital platforms. My responsibilities include contributing to branding and merchandise development, designing promotional materials such as posters for submission periods, events, and exhibits, and helping to craft the annual theme and visual identity. I also work closely with the Layout Editor to ensure stylistic consistency between the magazine and social media content.
Spring 2026
Centered around a “sun” theme, the spring 2026 palette is influenced by the soft, bright nature of budding springtime. Incorporating sun rays and print-like illustrations, the semester’s visual direction welcomes viewers to appreciate the changing of the seasons and artistic renewal.
Fall 2025
Contrasting our spring 2026 theme, fall introduced a “moon” motif. I designed this season’s deliverables using muted greens, blues, star and moon illustrations, and collage digital imagery to create a dream-like feeling of seasons changing.
Spring 2025
Focused on bold, geometric shapes and imagery, the spring 2025 Quarry theme took a vibrant turn from the fall. Emphasizing repetition, texture, and simplicity, I designed the spring edition Quarry deliverables as a transformation from the 2024 theme, accentuating the spring’s Transitional States magazine and gallery.
Fall 2024
I approached The Quarry’s 2024 fall zine drop design through a classic fall lens. I utilized deep reds and browns, along with regal typography that is balanced with sketched illustrations and lightweight lines. The result is a grand, academic feel that diligent students can connect with.
